September 29, 1941 - May 16, 2013

Carol L. Long, age 71, of Bel Air, MD passed away suddenly on May 17, 2013 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Carol was born and raised in Kingfisher, OK and lived most of her adult life in Maryland.

She studied at Cecil Community College and worked for more than 20 years in the accounting department of the Baltimore County Public School System.

She enjoyed the chance to make holiday and seasonal gatherings special for family and friends. This included making her pecan pies, Sally Lunn bread, and Easter bunny cakes.

She loved to travel with her adult children, going to England, Puerto Rico, and France, as well as regularly visiting family around the US.

Carol loved music and the arts, and had a passion for reading —all of which she shared with her children and grandchildren. Loving all things literary, she visited libraries wherever she went, worked with the local bookmobile, and was a member of a book club in Bel Air. Active in her community, she was a member of the League of Women Voters and attended many local events.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. James Long of Elkton, MD; daughters, Deborah Long and husband Tom Sain of Omaha, NE; Darcy Long of Altamonte Springs, FL; Diane Long of New York, NY; Denice Starkey of Rising Sun, MD; son, Darrell Long and wife Sarah of Wilmington, DE; sister, Claudette Brownlee of Kingfisher, OK; and grandchildren, Aubrey Goodman, Taylor and Nathaniel Long, Eric and Ethan Starkey, as well as great grandchild, Liam Goodman.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Ruth (Rogers) Brown and her sister, Lou Ann Banther.

A service will be held at 4 PM on Thursday May 23, 2013 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home P.A., located at 111 S. Queen St. Rising Sun, MD 21911, where friends and family may arrive two hours prior.
